All-New 2025 Subaru Forester

Powering the new Subaru Forester will be the same engine in current models - a 2.5-liter flat-four with a continuously variable transmission and all-wheel drive. However, output will be slightly different as the new Forester will output 180 horsepower and 178 pounds of torque. Last year's model produced 182 horses and 176 pounds of torque. Though the power output has marginally decreased, the torque is improved, which should make the SUV feel livelier. Also, a hybrid powertrain will be added next year, but no information is currently available on that engine.

Fuel Economy

Officially, Subaru hasn't released any info on the new Forester's fuel economy. But since the engine output is about the same, we expect it to have about the same gas mileage - 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.

The redesign of the Forester will see it, for the first time, have 19-inch alloy wheels in dark gray with machine-finish accents on the Touring trim. It will also have a bronze finish on the Forester Sport. These larger wheels, along with its Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and 8.7 inches of ground clearance, will allow the Forester better control in inclement weather or over rough terrain.

As you step into the cabin of the new Forester, you'll appreciate how comfortable the two-row model is. In mid-tier trims, you can find amenities such as a leather-wrapped gear selector and heated-and-ventilated front seats. There's also a new panoramic moonroof, which adds even more light throughout the cabin.

Additionally, the new Forester will feature a hands-free powered tailgate and expanded cargo area. The liftgate makes it easy to open the trunk if your hands are full, and the 74.4 cubic feet of space is perfect for carrying very large items.

Along with an updated interior design, Subaru has also given the model several new technologies. One new technology is an updated STARLINK Multimedia system. In base models, the system will run on a gets a dual seven-inch display, which incorporates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Although higher trims will feature a new 11.6-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration, plus wireless device charging.

As with the previous Forester, the 2025 model will feature Subaru's EyeSight suite of camera-based driver-assistance features. Standard features include adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation, lane departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. Though for more advanced features like blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning, evasive steering assistance, or a driver monitoring system, you'll need to purchase a higher trim like the mid-tier Sport or top-tier Touring.

There is no word on whether Subaru is adding or removing trims to the new Forester. But if the trims remain the same, they will be as follows:
